The majority of Americans – 86 percent – anticipate their summers will be different compared to last year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and seven in 10 say they expect to make changes to Fourth of July plans this year. But, one thing remains – salty snacks will be the center of July 4th celebrations. Given that, Frito-Lay, the snack category leader, issued the latest edition of its U.S. Snack Index1, including snacks remain essential to summer, but with consumers increasingly buying through new channels and eating snacks differently than ever before. From minimal travel and socially distanced gatherings, to when, where and how consumers shop for snacks – consumer behavior is likely to have a lasting impact on the months ahead.
