The Frito-Lay High School Internship program is an annual immersion into everything that PepsiCo and Frito-Lay do, day in and day out. The program offers local graduates and rising seniors from Dallas/Fort Worth area high schools—such as South Oak Cliff and Plano—a valuable opportunity to get an in-depth look at our operations, all while managing group assignments and working with a wide array of people in our organization.
2020 marks the second year of the program, and with the changes to how we do business because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it goes without saying that this class had a demanding set of circumstances to adapt to. Determined to push forward with our initiative, we shifted the curriculum to virtual classes and online meetings, which created unique challenges, but also opened an opportunity for more content. It also gave us a chance to involve more people from around the company, showcasing the true diversity of our culture.
Students were able to learn about themselves and gain a unique look at what’s possible after graduation, with opportunities to develop key skills like collaboration, presentation organization and team building. And while they certainly missed some of the in-person work, our interns tackled every hurdle like professionals.
As they continue to excel, whether as high-school seniors or at 4-year college and university programs, the internship experience that FLNA offers is undoubtedly key to helping these students succeed. And we look forward to further successes, working with our education partners week after week.
So let’s hear it for our 2020 Frito-Lay High School Interns, and let’s hear it from them as well:
“Thank you for the amazing internship and support you’ve given over the past two weeks.”
“Each of you has made an impact on my summer and let me know that…PepsiCo loves diversity
in its consumers, products, leadership, careers and goals.”
“I can’t begin to tell you just how much this internship meant to me.”
“From your team, I learned how meaningful a strong company culture is.”
“Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into making this one of the most valuable experiences
in my life.”
