Reducing Sodium

Frito-Lay snacks contain less sodium than you may think. That's because the salt in our chips is on the surface - rather than mixed into the base before cooking.

Although many of our snack chips are moderate in sodium, we are always looking for ways to reduce salt. In fact, in 2011 we launched our Lightly Salted line with 50% less sodium than regular snacks. And while we still have much more work to do, we’re proud to say we've already removed nearly 409 tons of sodium from our portfolio in just the last decade or so (between 2006-2015).

In 2007, we significantly reduced the amount of saturated fat in our products by using corn, sunflower and canola oils, which contain at least 80 percent of the "good" unsaturated fat. In fact, from 2006-2015, we removed more than 12,000 tons of saturated fat from our products. And we're not stopping there.

It is so important to ensure our snacks aren’t just highly enjoyable, but highly functional, too. This trend is supported by U.S. Dietary Guidelines, which put an increased emphasis on consuming foods that provide important food groups and nutrients to encourage. At Frito-Lay, we offer many options that meet this recommendation by delivering snacks with whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts/seeds, and nutrients like dietary fiber and calcium.

As a leader in snacking, we are committed to providing variety and choice. That's why we offer products with fewer ingredients, options that are USDA Certified Organic and/or non-GMO Project Verified, and a variety of snacks that meet other dietary needs and preferences. Learn more here.
