How We Create Our Snacks: The Evolution of Research and Development

For 55 years, Frito-Lay has shaped snacking in America. But how exactly do those beloved snacks we all know and love actually come to be? Hundreds of colleagues across our research and development (R&D) team play an integral role.

Across PepsiCo, the R&D team consists of more than 2,500 scientists and engineers spread over 15 research centers around the world, including more than 400 associates based at Frito-Lay headquarters in Plano, Texas.

These colleagues leverage consumer insight, unrivaled technical skills and solutions, and unmatched product design capabilities to deliver more enjoyable and nutritious foods to our consumers.

Beyond actual product development, the R&D team also includes colleagues responsible for quality assurance, regulatory affairs and nutrition sciences. Together, they work to bring delicious new snack offerings to market while ensuring the safety of our products and the accuracy of our label claims.
