Molly Bretl, Snack Developer
Get to know Snack Developer, Molly Bretl. She grew up here in Plano, TX and has been with Frito-Lay for the past 3 years. In her off time, she loves to cook, run and spend time with her family.
At Frito-Lay I am a Snack Developer in the seasonings and flavor group. My role is to design new seasonings and flavors for a wide array of products. In the last three years I’ve worked on the following brands: Smartfood, Stacy’s, Baked! and SunChips. My main focus recently has been on Smartfood popcorn. This year I helped launch the new Smartfood Jalapeno Ranch flavored popcorn (in addition to Smartfood Buffalo Cheddar, Cinnamon Sugar and Movie Theater Butter last year), including two new flavors on Smartfood Delights – White Cheddar and Sea Salted Caramel! My favorite is the Sea Salted Caramel!
My favorite part of working as a snack developer for Frito-Lay is seeing the product I work on make it to the shelf! It is a great feeling to be shopping and see the product you developed in the market. My parents are my biggest supporters and constantly advertise for Frito-Lay.
My favorite Frito-Lay snack is SunChips Multigrain Snacks. I remember requesting them for my school lunches when they first launched and still love them today. The source of whole grain makes me feel better about my chip choice and I love the flavor and unique texture!
My favorite Frito-Lay memory was a work trip to Indiana where I did a “Popcorn 101”. I learned everything there is to know about popcorn from the field to the shelf. It was so fun to go out into the popcorn fields with the farmers and learn all about popcorn.
Holly Ramage, Snack Developer
Get to know Frito-Lay Snack Developer, Holly Ramage. Hear about a day in the life of a snack developer and what inspires her.
A day in the life of a snack developer is different from the last! There is no day that is the same. Some days, it’s actually going to our manufacturing operations located all across the US to run trials. Other days, it’s working with cross-functional partners throughout the company to discuss new projects that are launching. It’s a highly collaborative role every day.
My favorite project at Frito-Lay has been working on the TOSTITOS® DIP-ETIZERS® line. The concept was to bring a line of authentic restaurant-inspired dips into a party worthy microwavable bowl.
My inspiration to pursue a career in research and development, started by growing up on a beef cattle and row crop farm in North Carolina inspired me. I had no idea at the time how much my childhood on that farm would influence the work I do today. On a day-to-day basis, I now see the complete cycle of how crops – like the ones we grew on that farm in North Carolina - become the snacks consumers love to eat. Having lived both ends of the spectrum has given be a great appreciation for the food industry.
After a day of developing snacks, you would think I would be tired of working with food when I get home at the end of the day - but no! I enjoy cooking at home with fun and unique ingredients I may have never tried before.

My favorite Frito-Lay memory happened when I was in sales prior to being an over-the-road driver.
