  • Q: What’s in your chips, anyway?

    A: Many Frito-Lay snacks start with simple ingredients like potatoes, corn, or grains. From there, we cook them in oils like sunflower, canola and corn. Our process is simple, just like our ingredients. Once we have cooked our signature snacks, we add salt or a blend of seasoning to create the unique flavors that you know and love.

  • Q: Many of your snacks are fried. Aren’t all fried foods unhealthy?

    A: Frying itself isn’t unhealthy. But the oil that’s used to do the frying makes a big difference. Certain oils like tropical and partially hydrogenated oils contain saturated or trans fats that are considered “bad fats.” That’s why we cook our fried chips in corn, canola and sunflower oils  that contain 80 percent or more of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat — the “good fats” — along with 20 percent or less saturated fat and 0 grams of trans fat.

  • Q: Aren’t your chips high in fat?

    A: Most of our chips have 7-10 grams of total fat per 1-oz. serving. We also offer snacks with 3.5 grams of fat or less per serving, such as  Lay’s® Oven Baked potato crisps and our Lay’s® Kettle Cooked Less Fat potato chips that have 40 percent less fat than original potato chips.

  • Q: Frito-Lay makes savory snacks…so aren’t they high in sodium?

    A: Our chips have less salt than you may think! The sodium per serving in our chips is actually comparable or less than foods like bread and crackers. With chips, the salt is on the surface of the snack, so it’s the first thing your tongue tastes. With other foods, like crackers, the savory taste isn’t as strong since the salt is mixed into the dough before baking. For example, a 1-oz. serving of Lay’s® Classic potato chips contains 170 mg of sodium, which is less than the amount of sodium in a 1-oz. serving of wheat crackers.**

  • Q: Are any Frito-Lay products certified Organic?

    A: Organic food options are becoming more widely available, and not just in the produce section. We offer several USDA Certified Organic products within our Simply® and Stacy’s® product lines.

  • Q: Do Frito-Lay products contain whole grains?

    A: For years, we have been transforming our portfolio of snacks to meet changing consumer needs and preferences. This includes the creation of products that provide whole grains. For example, our SunChips® multigrain snacks contain 19 grams of whole grains per 1-ounce serving. In addition, we offer our Smartfood® popcorn flavors, which are made with air-popped, 100 percent whole-grain popcorn.

  • Q: Does Frito-Lay offer any products that are Non-GMO Project Verified?

    A: We offer a number of products across the Smartfood®, Stacy’s® and Simply® lines which are Non-GMO Project Verified.
