Based on recommendations from the 2005
Dietary Guidelines
Grains: Eat at least three ounces of
whole grains every day, in place of refined grains. |
Fruits: Eat a variety of whole fruit (fresh,
frozen, canned, or dried) to ensure adequate fiber intake.
Oils: Make most of your fat sources from
vegetable oil, nuts and fish. The daily allowance of oil for
most adults is about 6 teaspoons per day. This recommendation
is for the adult that does less than 30 minutes of exercise
per day. If you exercise more than that, then your oil recommendation
could be higher. Frito-Lay chip products provide 1-2
teaspoons of healthy oil per 1 oz serving, and 1 teaspoon of
oil equals 4-5 grams of fat. |
Vegetables: Eat more dark green and orange
veggies and more dry beans and peas. |
Milk: Choose fat-free or low-fat milk. |
Meat and Beans: Choose low-fat or lean meats. Choose more fish, beans, peas, nuts and seeds. |
Physical activity: Be physically active
for at least 30 minutes a day for health benefits. |
