Die-Hard Buckeye And Longhorn Fans Score School-Spirit Opportunity Of A Lifetime With Tostitos "Race To The Bowl"

Ohio State University and University of Texas football fans go head-to-head in cross-country race to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and chance to win $100,000 scholarship


PLANO, Texas – Fill up the gas tank, grab the Tostitos chips and install your GPS – it’s time to “Race to the Bowl.”  The Tostitos brand today kicked off its “Race to the Bowl,” a competition that puts six die-hard Ohio State University fans head-to-head against six ultimate University of Texas fans in a race across America to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and a chance to win $100,000 for their school’s general scholarship fund.  Ohio State University and the University of Texas will compete in the 2009 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. on January 5, 2009.

Beginning on New Year’s Eve day in New York City, the teams will compete in a variety of challenges that test their school pride and spirit over the course of a five-day dash across the country, all culminating in a finale where the winning team will be announced live during the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl halftime show broadcast on FOX Sports and presented with a $100,000 scholarship for their university.

As a long-time supporter of college football and the Fiesta Bowl, the Tostitos brand created its “Race to the Bowl” as a tribute to the ultimate true-blue college football fans and the friendships that can be fostered over the mutual devotion to their team.  From the face painters and hardcore tailgaters, to the fans that brave harsh weather and travel long-distances to support their team, Tostitos recognizes the truly devoted fans as college football’s unsung heroes and is rewarding the most devoted Buckeye and Longhorn fans with the trip of a lifetime with their friends to the 2009 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and the potential chance to give back to their school with a scholarship contribution.

The teams will face-off for their first two challenges in New York where they will compete in a football drill against the backdrop of the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, and then hit Times Square where they perform their school’s fight songs and earn “tips” from the public. 

Following New York, the teams will travel to their school towns for the next leg of the race where they will have to recruit local fans to demonstrate their school spirit by painting their faces in school colors.  The team painting the most faces wins the challenge. 

After this quick homecoming, the teams will compete in a unique football scoring competition right in the heart of Las Vegas that incorporates all the sites and sounds of The Strip, and then rush to the airport for the next flight to Glendale, Ariz. where they will complete a football training camp-style obstacle course before crossing the finish line inside Cardinal Stadium. 

Teams earn 15-second deductions towards their total race time for winning each challenge, and the team with the fastest overall time wins the Tostitos “Race to the Bowl” and the $100,000 for their school’s scholarship fund.
