The Baked! line of snacks, including Baked! Tostitos tortilla chips, was originally introduced nationally in 1994 as lower calorie and lower fat snack choices. In 2001, Tostitos Scoops! tortilla chips with the revolutionary bowl shape were introduced. Launched as “The Dip Lover’s Chip,” Tostitos Scoops! tortilla chips quickly became a “must have” for “chip and dip” snacking occasions and quickly became the brand’s most popular chip. To provide the right dip companion, Frito-Lay launched its all natural salsa line in 1991 which currently includes Tostitos All Natural Mild Salsa, All Natural Medium Salsa and All Natural Hot Salsa. Today, as consumer tastes have expanded beyond “heat levels,” Tostitos has introduced cheese dips including Tostitos Monterey Jack Queso and Tostitos Salsa Con Queso. The Tostitos brand salsas and dips are part of Frito-Lay’s larger line of dips including Lay’s brand Dips, Ruffles brand Dips and Fritos brand Dips.

The launch of the Baked! line of snacks was another example of Frito-Lay’s long-standing commitment to offer a wide variety of healthier snack options. In the mid 80s, the company launched Reduced Fat Ruffles potato chips. In 2003, Frito-Lay led the industry and eliminated trans fats from its entire snack chip portfolio by converting Cheetos, Doritos, and Tostitos snacks to 100% pure corn oil. Most recently the company announced that Lay’s Classic potato chips, Lay’s Kettle cooked potato chips and Ruffles potato chips will all be cooked in heart-healthy sunflower oil.
