Frito-Lay's Most Popular Brands Already Labeling Trans Fat Prior to FDA Ruling

PLANO, Texas – Last fall, Frito-Lay announced a product conversion to corn oil for Doritos, Tostitos and Cheetos snacks, which resulted in zero grams of trans fats in these core brands. These products are already on store shelves, and along with Lay's, Ruffles, Fritos and Rold Gold Pretzels, Frito-Lay's most popular products contain zero grams of trans fat.

Earlier this year Frito-Lay began changing its packaging to include a trans fat content line on the Nutrition Label of its core brands prior to today's FDA ruling regarding trans fat content. Frito-Lay is the first company to have made this Nutrition Label change proactively.

BACKGROUND:
Frito-Lay has made significant changes to its products and packaging to help consumers make educated choices. Other products that contain zero grams of trans fat include Lay's and Ruffles potato chips, Fritos corn chips, Rold Gold pretzels, as well as Frito-Lay's new line of "Natural" snacks that were launched in May. In addition to removing trans fats from core brands, Frito-Lay continues to introduce improved nutritional options in snacks. These products are part of Frito-Lay's growing portfolio of "sensible snacks," which include Baked! products, WOW! snacks, Reduced Fat snacks and Rold Gold pretzels.

Currently Frito-Lay offers a wide variety of products that in addition to containing zero grams of trans fat, also are no-fat, low-fat and reduced fat snack foods, which may be included in moderation as part of a healthy diet. Some of these products include: Baked! Lay's Crisps, Baked! Doritos Chips, Baked! Tostitos Chips, Reduced Fat Ruffles Chips, Rold Gold Honey Wheat Pretzels, WOW! Fat Free and Low-Fat snacks and New Cheetos Reduced Fat Cheese-Flavored snacks.
