The Miss America Organization Partners With Lay's Potato Chips To Launch "Lay's Tastes of America" Program Celebrating Regional Tastes Across The Country

PLANO, Texas – Frito-Lay Inc. announced today that Miss America 2002 Katie Harman and Lay's Potato Chips are in search of America's favorite potato chip flavors that celebrate regional tastes across the country.

This month, Lay's Potato Chips unveiled the first of its "Lay's Tastes of America" flavor series: Memphis BBQ and California Cool Dill, that are available in stores now.

Beginning today, Miss America 2002 and Lay's Potato Chips are asking Americans to vote for the next two regional flavors at www.Lays.com. The "Lay's Tastes of America" vote is modelled after the Miss America competition. Five flavor finalists represent five regions of the country and Americans will vote for a "crowning" flavor and a "1st runner-up" flavor. In August, Miss America 2002 will travel to the winning city and crown the winning flavor. Visitors to www.Lays.com will have a chance to win a trip to one of the two regions that inspired the "Lay's Tastes of America" flavors: Memphis, TN or San Diego, CA.

"Since being selected as Miss America 2002, I've had many opportunities to experience the diversity of this country and that includes a wide variety of great foods from enchiladas to sushi," said Miss America 2002 Katie Harman. "I'm thrilled to partner with Lay's to discover and celebrate America's flavors at its best."

The "Lay's Tastes of America" flavor finalists include:

San Antonio Salsa – a zesty salsa taste with cilantro
New Orleans Cajun Gumbo -- gumbo flavor with a spicy kick
Coney Island Hot Dog -- flavors of mustard and onion
Maui Onion – sweet onion flavor
Wisconsin Cheddar – a mellow cheddar taste

Two of the winning flavors will replace the current "Lay's Tastes of America" flavors (Memphis BBQ and California Cool Dill) and will be featured in November for a limited time.

"The ‘Lay's Tastes of America' program celebrates the uniqueness of different regions of our country," said Regan Ebert, a Frito-Lay marketing director. "With the help of the iconic symbol of Miss America, Lay's wants to bring the experience of these regions to everyone through our new flavors."
